Hello, I am somewhat worried about asbestos. We recently had new doors installed in our house (built in 1953), but these new doors are 6cm (2.4 inches) shorter than the old ones. The door installers removed the old doors and fitted the new ones, and now there is a gap where you can see the wall. Our plasterer will seal everything next Saturday. However, I am concerned about the "substrate," as shown in the photo. Can someone tell me something about this? We have been back in the apartment since Monday; we were not present during the replacement but are moving around inside. Could asbestos, if present, be released through this open gap? For the other doors, the masonry is also visible, but in the bathroom, it looks to me like old tiles underneath. I would appreciate any advice, even though I have already asked several times here about asbestos.

Hello, I have a certain fear of asbestos. No one who has read any of your posts would ever guess that...
But to get back to the question: as long as no materials are being disturbed, I consider the risk to be nonexistent. Asbestos release is unlikely unless someone forcefully tears the door out of the wall.
By the way, how did the purchase of the property come about if you react so strongly to asbestos? Did that concern only arise after acquiring the house?

By the way: how did you come to acquire the property if you react so cautiously to asbestos? Did this concern arise only after buying the house? Thanks for the feedback. Yes, the doors would be professionally replaced. Unfortunately, with the wrong measurements... I have two small children, so my main concern is their safety. One year of demolition/extension/renovation has left its marks. Since about three weeks ago, when I found out that asbestos was discovered during demolition in the garages (it was removed before demolition) and also on our old balcony, I can’t stop thinking about asbestos. I looked it up several times, and now asbestos feels like it’s everywhere. The house belongs to my partner; it was converted into a multi-family home in 2015, and now each apartment is being expanded. I only moved in 2018 – as I said, asbestos was known about, but I always thought it was more of an issue outside the building…

Is this intentional? Why are doors planned to be lower?I’m not sure if you have experience with door installation, but modern door frames have standardized widths and heights. This was different with older doors and frames. A custom-made door frame with door leaf would likely exceed the budget, especially with multiple units. If the plasterer has been there, it’s no longer visible.curiosius
