Hello everyone,

we are currently planning the balcony for our new build. It will wrap around the corner of our house. The lengths are about 4.5m (15 feet) on each side. The depth is 3m (10 feet) or 1.5m (5 feet), depending on the side.

Originally, a steel structure was planned. We would have attached this to the ceiling with metal inserts and thermal break pads. Our structural builder has now also suggested building the balcony from concrete as an alternative. For subsidy purposes, the entire attachment to the house would then need to be done using thermal insulation connectors (about 10 linear meters (33 feet)).

The deciding factor for us will be the cost. Maybe someone here can give us a rough estimate of which option is likely to be cheaper.

I would include this as a contingency item in the tender with potential additional or reduced costs. That way, you have definite pricing. It probably depends on the company. A master mason would likely prefer to do this in concrete.
