Hello,

Our mid-terrace house will be finished at the end of May. We are currently looking for a tiler.

Our question is, can the basement floor be tiled immediately despite the moisture?

I have heard that the basement walls should only be painted after 1-2 years because the house has moisture and also brings moisture when moving in.

What about the floor tiles in the basement?

There is no underfloor heating in the basement. However, the ground floor, first floor, and attic do have it. So, tiling can basically start right after the initial heating on the ground floor, first floor, and attic, immediately after handing over the keys. The basement needs to be dehumidified for about 1 to 3 weeks until it is dry.

If everything is empty without furniture, we preferred to install the tiles right at the beginning. Later on, with furniture and small children, it becomes difficult.

Of course, it would be nicer to have it finished right away.
But what isn’t, isn’t.
You’ll damage everything, including the furniture, if you seal the surfaces too early.

Are you planning to lay the tiles yourself in the basement?
The tiler from the ground floor and upper floor should measure your screed. Politely ask and offer a tip. Then he can give you one or two pieces of advice.

The tile installer is not supposed to handle the basement either. They want to take measurements first. If they say it is dry, they can start. If not, it will need to dry a bit longer.
