ᐅ New Construction: Cube/Modular/Container Homes

Hello forum,

We are currently looking for a building plot and want to either build a house or order a prefabricated house. Options like log cabin houses (which can then be finished/insulated/etc.) are also conceivable for us—as long as it is modern. We would prefer a design featuring a lot of wood, glass, and possibly concrete.

My questions are:

• What are your experiences with these types of houses?
• Are modular construction methods or log cabin/vacation homes that you finish yourselves feasible?
• What costs are usually involved? (Our desired size is between 80 and 150 sqm (860 and 1,615 sq ft))
• Do you know of good suppliers for such houses?

Do you mean something like a Meisterstück house with a timber frame construction or Fullwood?

I really like the houses built with a timber frame structure. It should definitely be in the direction of a cube shape, flat roof, lots of windows. For example, I like the construction style of the company CUBIG, although with around 80m² (860 sq ft) and just under 200,000 € it’s quite pricey.

About two years ago, someone here wanted to build a Combi-Box house, or had similar ideas discussed here https://www.hausbau-forum.de/threads/Containerhaus-pro-und-contra-eure-Erfahrungen-erwuenscht.27183/#post-252629 and here https://www.hausbau-forum.de/threads/Meinungen-zu-unserem-hauskonzept.30775/, although these concepts are mostly based on steel structures. In timber frame construction, the Fachwerkhaus 2000 by Huf has apparently shaped the ideas of entire generations. “Steep prices” are commonly encountered even in concepts based on mobile homes, tiny houses, and similar, since when scaled linearly to the floor sizes of regular houses, the costs usually reach astronomical levels.
