Hello,
first, a brief summary of our current situation:
In our future place of residence (village), according to Telekom, only a "slow" DSL connection would be possible. Fortunately, last year Deutsche Glasfaser launched a so-called demand aggregation for the community, which was successful. Therefore, in the next few weeks/months, the village will be supplied with fiber optic cables.
I have already placed an order with Deutsche Glasfaser for our plot for internet ("DG Classic, 400Mbit/s") and TV (IPTV, which I understand means television over the internet cable) and thus save the connection fee of 750 EUR.
Now my question
first, a brief summary of our current situation:
- currently still renting
- currently a customer of Telekom (internet + phone)
- already owner of an undeveloped plot of land (not yet connected to utilities)
- construction contract signed with general contractor, planned start of construction mid-March, guaranteed construction period ~ 6 months, so move-in expected around September, more likely October
- all electrical work included in the construction contract, no owner-provided work specified
- number of sockets, network outlets, etc., according to the construction contract very few, so we will need to add quite a few
- no basement

Now my question
- Upon inquiry, Deutsche Glasfaser told me that construction work in the community is planned to start in the coming weeks but will last a few months, so our connection will probably only be activated by the end of 2019 / beginning of 2020. If they are not ready by the time our other utilities (gas, water...) are connected to the house, they advise us to pre-install an empty conduit from the property boundary to the utility room as a preparatory measure. What would be the best solution in the meantime? We will move in in September/October. Assuming DG’s construction takes longer than planned, we would be in our nice new house without TV/television/phone.
Should we first continue ordering internet/TV connections from Telekom during our construction? Our contract there is still valid anyway. Although the connection would cost about 800 EUR, I would get the later DG TV connection free of charge.
Before starting construction, I requested a quote for installing the network cables. It would have cost around €4200 gross for 36 cables, including patch panels and connections. On top of that, there would have been additional charges for routing the cables to external connections.
Since that was too expensive for me, I purchased all the materials myself and commissioned the cable installation separately from the electrician working for my general contractor. That was significantly cheaper.
Still, altogether with all the hardware—the cameras, access points, UPS, NAS, and small components—it cost at least a very high four-figure amount.
So please keep in mind that in addition to the installation costs, there are also costs for the hardware.

Laying the cables is not rocket science either. You can still save some money here.
You shouldn’t include the hardware costs. It’s like bathroom fixtures... One person just places everything on a shelf, while another buys a 48U rack from Rittal. There are also wide ranges in prices for cameras, NAS devices, switches, routers, access points, patch panels, and so on.
For example, my hardware alone (excluding installation and cabling) is already in the mid five-figure range.

SenorRaul723 Feb 2019 08:52I reviewed the general construction description and the additional price list for electrical work again.
This is only regarding internet and television equipment (additional sockets will also be installed and will generate costs).
“Internet” is not explicitly mentioned in the construction description. The only item related to television is:
Then the items from the additional price list that could relate to internet and television:
Regarding my plan:
- If I want 5 rooms supplied with SAT cable, I have to pay for two extras (three included according to the construction description) -> 2 * 115 € = 230 €
- If I want 20 CAT 7 cables installed and connected to CAT 6 sockets, I have to pay for all 20 -> 20 * 120 € = 2,400 €
- 10 double LAN sockets + 2 flush-mounted access points -> 12 * 41 € = 492 €
I don’t know whether the hardware and/or labor costs are included. Additionally, more CAT 7 cables may be needed in rooms not yet planned for, plus all the sockets, which according to the construction description won’t be sufficient either.
So I should probably expect a high four-figure amount overall, right? Luckily, I have planned a good financial buffer in my budget.

Telephone and television connection
Three antenna sockets with supply cables as well as three telephone connection empty boxes with supply cables will be installed
Then the items from the additional price list that could relate to internet and television:
- Ceiling or wall outlet flush-mounted: 41 €
- Antenna connection (TV) including connection socket: 115 €
- CAT 7 connection cable with CAT 6 jacks on both ends: 120 €
- Telephone connection including cable without connection socket (Telecom service): 80 €

No idea whether the hardware and/or labor is included. I might also need additional CAT 7 cables in rooms not yet planned, plus all the power outlets that according to the base contract will not be sufficient either.
So I should probably expect a high four-figure amount, right? Luckily I have planned a good buffer in my financing. Construction companies usually list material plus labor in their surcharge price lists. Where does the €41 for a LAN double socket come from? Of course, you always need a cable running to the patch panel plus the material for two double sockets.
