Hello,

I have occasionally read in the forum that windows and front doors are purchased from abroad (Poland, Slovenia, Bosnia, Kosovo, etc.)... and that some dealers are active here as well.
We are looking for a window supplier for a new semi-detached house project (construction starts in May 2026). Ideally, the supplier could also offer shading systems, insect screens, and window sills. A front door would be a plus.
We are currently looking for uPVC/aluminum windows and optionally wood/aluminum or Aluplast Wooddec/aluminum windows for the living areas.

I am familiar with the prices from our local providers and those from Fenstermaxx, with Fenstermaxx currently about 10–15% cheaper than the local ones.
I received an offer from Slovenia, which is priced somewhere between the local suppliers and Fenstermaxx – so not particularly cheap, but they do offer an installation service in Austria.

Can anyone recommend a company from Bosnia, Poland, Kosovo, etc.?
The construction site is in Austria, very close to the German border… almost southern Bavaria.

I have been a non-manufacturer and now for several years a non-dealer, and I still recommend not to buy yourself but to leave the procurement to the installer and allow them their margin. Good installers are unfortunately rare but crucial to maintaining production quality during installation. We withdrew from the business mainly because of this exact shortage. Where your installer buys from is secondary: thanks to ISO 9000, no assembler will damage the reputation of their licensor (usually Schüco or Kömmerling). Please search my posts yourself using the keywords wood/aluminum or wood-aluminum.

I consider it likely that very good product quality can be obtained more cheaply from abroad.
If I were to install windows myself, I would consider purchasing them from overseas.
A professional company will refuse to install such windows. This provides a high degree of confidence that the installation will be done properly and without issues.
With craftsmen who are not equally professional or independent providers, you need to determine whether you will receive good quality or not.
When it comes to windows, cutting costs in the wrong place can become very expensive. How you assess the risk for yourself is your decision.
In the end, you want a functioning house, and that is more than just the sum of the quality of individual components.

With craftsmen who are not as professional or with individual providers, it is important to determine whether you will actually receive good quality or not.

This is always the case, whether it’s with kitchens or plumbers.
In the end, the house also has to be affordable, and unfortunately, that is often no longer achievable with local suppliers.
The question is not whether I want to buy from abroad at all, but whether anyone knows a supplier they have had good experience with and can recommend to me.

I already accept the installer’s hourly wage, which is usually quite high, and within reason also their margin. But when the margin on a project of this size is €15,000 (or more), the fun stops at some point. Retailers should also understand that as a builder, I don’t want to repay a loan 1-2 years longer just so that two middlemen in Germany/Austria can park a new Mercedes in front of their homes every year. However, it was not my intention in this post to discuss such topics. I am specifically looking for suppliers and experiences with them.

Thank you very much and best regards

It’s good if you are familiar with this risk assessment. The forum is full of homeowners who overlooked exactly this, which is why I wrote this post.

In Poland, you can get some branded windows up to 20% cheaper than in Germany—brands like Aluplast, Veka, or even Schüco. I am satisfied with Veka windows, but I sourced them through the window installer rather than directly from Poland. Against the window installer’s advice, I also chose dark frames for the patio doors, and the professional was right: the four sun-facing patio doors need to be readjusted regularly because they tend to warp. Perhaps this information will be more helpful to you.

Do you have vinyl or vinyl/aluminum? Our choice won’t be the usual anthracite but still a darker color. I thought that with an aluminum cladding (Aluskin) you would have fewer issues with warping since it protects the vinyl frame better from direct heat exposure. No one has warned me about this regarding the planned large lift-and-slide door.
