Hello everyone,

we have a single-family house (new build) and I am currently looking into the proper setup for reliable Wi-Fi. Here are the main points so far:
Wiring: Cat7
Area per floor: 50 m² (540 sq ft)
Basement: fiber optic connection, network cabinet, patch panel, Speedport router
Ground floor: 2 network outlets available for connecting an access point (PoE or power outlet)
First floor: network outlet in the hallway for an access point with PoE
Attic: network outlet on the ceiling for an access point with PoE

It is especially important to us that roaming between the access points works well.
Could I simply connect 3 Ubiquiti Lite units, one per floor (basement is disregarded)? Do these need to be specially configured?
Another question: can I connect a PoE switch to the patch panel to power the PoE components?

Thanks in advance

Hello Hensgen,

you can actually answer all your questions with yes 🙂

Otherwise, for better understanding, you might want to take a look here, for example:

If you have any further specific questions, you will certainly find help here.

Better to choose the NanoHD over the Lite because of the speed.
Regarding roaming, it is the client device that decides, not the access point. Usually, it works well per floor without detailed configuration. It is important to set the access points to different channels.
Make sure to provide a connection in the basement. Many devices today use Wi-Fi or LAN.

And I always say: also equip the garage

And don’t forget the garden either.
