Hello everyone,

I am currently thinking about the shading for my 5x5m (16x16 ft) wooden deck, which will be used as an outdoor dining area. Normally, I would have installed a louvered roof without hesitation. Until I saw this:

Wooden terrace in the garden with several trees and a shady leaf canopy, open outdoor area.

Is such natural shading practical? The distance between the crab apple trees is exactly 5m (16 ft), which matches our dimensions perfectly. Which plants are suitable for this? Preferably not ones that attract a lot of insects...

The trees I want to have around the wooden deck are plane trees.

Initially, it was said that they would cost about 400-500 Euros each, with a trunk circumference of 14-16cm (6-6.3 inches) and a height of 2.50m (8.2 feet).
Now the landscaper says they cost around 2,000 Euros each!
I could puke!

I don’t have any tips regarding the pipes. We just buy the standard stuff from the hardware store.

Regarding the plane trees... in one episode of the gardening show "Die Beetbrüder," plane trees were also used for green shading. This summer, a price of 500€ per tree was mentioned. They were pre-grown with a canopy shape and about 210cm (83 inches), I believe. Other nurseries also have nice trees!

On the internet, I also found roof planes ranging from 200 to 2,000. The ones around 400 would be more than enough for a start.

PE-HD pipe. Fittings from Unidelta.
Taps, for example from Ideal.

The landscaping contractor plans to lay the turf on Monday. Is this still feasible in mid-November?

Sure, that doesn’t bother it. I wouldn’t install it during a prolonged freeze, but better now than in May, when months of heat and drought could follow. Better now, yes.
