Hello everyone,

I am currently renovating my grandparents’ old house. While removing wallpaper, a strange wall coating was revealed. It is thin and very smooth on the surface. Does anyone have an idea what this could be? It peels off easily with a putty knife. I would appreciate it if anyone has seen something like this before.

Yes, we noticed that during our renovation as well. It was on our ceiling. We applied a bonding primer suitable for concrete and then replastered it, without causing any further issues :-)

It is probably lime slurry. Depending on its adhesion to the substrate, it can be left as is.
