I registered on MyHammer and posted a job request for a stair railing, including photos and all. It was a recommendation from friends who said that compared to directly contacting companies X and Y, they received significantly cheaper offers here and the workmanship was very good.

Maybe I expected too much, but the job listing has had many views so far, yet no responses. Perhaps there are users here who post jobs there more often. Have you really received many offers or sometimes none at all?

Hmm, that has been the case from the very beginning.

So, I’m not sure if this helps, but I have arranged two moves through MyHammer. The first was just the basement and attic, including tools and machines, and the second was a full household move.

The first job was commissioned entirely online and by phone. That turned out to be less than ideal. Despite advance photos and a detailed description, the company drastically underestimated the scope and then started to cut corners. In other words, they ended up damaging several items because they assumed that things in the attic or basement must be worthless. Unfortunately, that was a wrong assumption. In the end, they had to repay me 30% of their already low compensation to cover the damages.

For the second move, we invited the companies that offered competitive prices to visit the apartment in person. We contacted the 5 to 10 best offers and immediately eliminated those that seemed unprofessional. We also excluded any companies that did not want to inspect the site firsthand.

This allowed the companies to get a better idea for planning, and for us to get an impression of the company. It became clear right away who was knowledgeable and who wasn’t. And likeability should not be underestimated either.
The second move was very relaxed, highly organized, and professional. All that at up to 200% below competing prices.

I would approach hiring tradespeople similarly. Post an ad, review the best offers, meet in person to discuss, and then decide. Of course, insurance questions and other details should be clarified during this process.

So far, I have used MyHammer to find a tradesperson three times and have been satisfied each time. Additionally, we saved a substantial amount of money.

then I’ll dig up this topic again...

A long time ago, I booked a move—with similar experiences to @AleXSR790 🙁

Then a print order with 3 2x “interested,” but two hadn’t read the timing requirement, and the third ultimately backed out. In the end, we found an affordable agency locally 🙂

Currently, there’s a 'tender' for the front yard—6 initial inquiries, after providing more details only 3 responded—and *one* came for an inspection, but that’s not enough to compare, especially since the price was too high for us, and then he wanted to do it unofficially—what a pity 🙁

Conclusion: with the current “skilled labor shortage,” it certainly won’t get any easier...

I also felt that there isn’t as much activity on MyHammer as there used to be. Maybe it’s because of the region here, but I used to place orders more frequently through it. Nowadays, hardly anyone responds.

About a year ago, we hired a small clearance job through MyHammer and were very satisfied. The price was right, and the work was done very quickly.

I believe the days of platforms like myHammer and similar services are not over yet. In recent years, most tradespeople haven’t really needed to rely on such platforms. I once hired a demolition of a concrete base through one of these services, including disposal. In the end, the construction debris ended up on my trailer, which was hitched to my car, because the contractor couldn’t tow more than 2 tons with his Golf Variant, and he didn’t even have a commercial driver’s license.
But we agreed on the price, and handing over the job saved my back.
I think simpler tasks are well suited for these platforms. For installing Carrara marble, however, it’s better to hire a local master craftsman.
