I registered on MyHammer and posted a job request for a stair railing, including photos and all. It was a recommendation from friends who said that compared to directly contacting companies X and Y, they received significantly cheaper offers here and the workmanship was very good.

Maybe I expected too much, but the job listing has had many views so far, yet no responses. Perhaps there are users here who post jobs there more often. Have you really received many offers or sometimes none at all?

I have used MyHammer a few times and was always satisfied. There were many offers, sometimes with very wide price ranges (moving a one-bedroom apartment from 350 to 2000 euros). I was always happy with the work.

On one occasion, there were only a few or too expensive offers, which was for a one-time hedge trimming of just 10-15m (33-49 feet) of hedge. The job was probably too small, and the area was relatively sparsely populated. In urban areas, there was always significantly more availability.

I have posted dozens of jobs on MyHammer.

What really annoyed me were price differences of over 100%.
  • Example: installing a parapet cover including materials €1200–4500
  • Garage shell construction €6000–16000
  • Building a 35m (115 ft) wall €5000–35000, etc.

The problem with MyHammer is mainly sorting out the unreliable contractors.
By now, I prefer asking friends for recommendations.

We are registered as a company there and are aware of the significant price differences.
We source our interior fittings from this platform.
However, we cannot work below a certain price. After submitting a quote, we often receive feedback that we are too expensive. Other companies complete the work for almost 50% less.
We accept this and lose the job.
About four weeks later, the customer contacts us again, asking if we can come take a look because they need our help—since the work was not done properly or according to building standards.
Skilled workers cost money—not only for us but also for the client. But quality has its price.
Therefore, I can only advise you to trust your intuition. Reach out, call, or meet with the company on site. There are many good and reliable companies there, but also many that are only after quick money. Companies that deliver quality work will be happy to come to you.
Best regards

I am an architect. I once submitted a test request to have my garage plastered via MyHammer.
Four applicants.

  • Offer was inexpensive. But after several emails, it turned out that only a single coat was included. The revised offer was double the market price.
  • Offer. I am still waiting for the on-site inspection.
  • Offer. Three times the market price, but apparently a professional... (Can you recognize a professional from such an offer text?)
  • Offer. After the on-site inspection, the price was four times what I currently pay a tradesperson from our company list. The offer was given without VAT and included a conditional item that is certainly necessary (cannot be avoided) and very expensive. For example, covering 1 m² (10.8 sq ft) of garage floor with foil costs €8 plus VAT.

I had an expensive IKEA fitted kitchen installed through MyHammer. This turned out to be a huge mistake.

The problem is that the service provider reviews on MyHammer are heavily filtered. In many cases, it is not possible to leave negative feedback. You can hire a MyHammer contractor without placing an official order through the website, meaning the site does not clearly inform you that you need to submit an order. If there is no order number, MyHammer uses this as a justification to allow only positive (or neutral) reviews! But why would positive reviews be allowed? If a neutral review contains negative comments, it is also not published. Therefore, it’s no wonder that most service providers have around 95% positive ratings.

Unfortunately, my kitchen was assembled extremely poorly, so I had to have a large part of it corrected by the IKEA partner company. It was not built at a right angle, was not level, and many small parts were missing (screws, brackets, dampers, etc.). They left a huge mess behind. The wall cabinet was installed much higher than shown in the planning drawings. This list could go on much further.

In the end, I tried to leave a negative review on MyHammer. However, you could only give a positive or neutral rating! (Alternatively, you can report the violation, but potential customers see nothing of this in the reviews.) This critical but necessarily neutral review was not published. After a few days, I sent an email asking why. I received no reply. Today, I called the hotline, and this was the final straw: the employee accused me of not using the website correctly (I have worked for startups for years and can program, etc.) and attacked me personally (saying I was unpleasant and unfriendly). He showed no regret for the poor workmanship of the contractor, no understanding that I basically wasted hundreds of euros because MyHammer deceives users, and then just ended the call abruptly.

My advice: MyHammer acts in a criminal manner in this respect, and it is advisable not to rely on their reviews. Criticism is not accepted, and calls or emails to MyHammer are pointless.
