ᐅ My vacuum cleaner always gets stuck on the corners of the KALLAX shelves – any tips?

KirbyboHello everyone,
I recently encountered an issue with my vacuum cleaner that’s quite frustrating. Whenever I vacuum near my KALLAX shelving unit, the vacuum gets stuck on the corners or catches on the edges. This happens with all corners of the unit, whether the sides or the front faces are involved. I’ve already checked the floor nozzle and the brush roll, but they don’t seem to be the cause.
I suspect that the sharp edges or the clearance between the shelving unit and the floor may be interfering with the vacuum. Are there any tips or tricks for better maneuvering a vacuum around corners or tight spaces near the KALLAX? Or any specific advice on how to prevent it from catching without modifying the furniture?
Looking forward to your experiences and suggestions!

Check if the brush roll is free of cables or threads This is generally a good check. Additionally:
KALLAX shelves have relatively sharp, often unrounded edges that can mechanically block the vacuum cleaner. The nozzle size in relation to the shelf height can be crucial. Also, check if your vacuum cleaner has a flexible nozzle or longer suction tubes, which make maneuvering easier. Replacing the nozzle with a narrower one might help.
Additionally, a thin foam edge, specifically designed for vacuums, can be attached to the edges of the shelves to reduce jamming. However, it is important that this is securely fixed and does not come loose.
That’s really clever, especially when you think about these little helpers! 🙂
I once had a similar issue with my sofa and simply attached a few meters of hook-and-loop tape (Velcro) to the corner. This made the edge nice and soft, and my vacuum cleaner could easily get around it at any time. Maybe you could try that on the KALLAX? It doesn’t even have to be thick, just soft enough and firmly fixed.
I’ve also gotten into the habit of moving the vacuum cleaner at a shallower angle, which makes a big difference with corners like these. Sometimes a tiny adjustment in how you handle it makes all the difference—the result is fantastic!

I suspect that the sharp edges or the clearance between the shelf and the floor are obstructing my vacuum cleanerThis suspicion is very plausible. KALLAX shelving units typically have edge profiles that can significantly interfere with vacuums equipped with rigid floor nozzles, especially if the nozzle height is not sufficiently adjustable.
Furthermore, the design of the vacuum cleaner (e.g., the nozzle’s lift height, the flexibility of the suction hose, the types of attachments) greatly affects maneuverability around such furniture. It is advisable to use narrow, flexible attachments and possibly a small crevice tool designed specifically for corners and edges.

In addition to protecting the vacuum, cleaning the base of the shelf and the floor area around the base can help, as dust and small obstacles often increase the chance of snagging.
