Hello everyone,

I have a Kallax shelf from Ikea that used to fit perfectly with the height of my apartment. Now I’ve changed the carpet in that room, and the new one is significantly thicker – so the shelf is now much too low. Specifically, the surface of the Kallax is several centimeters below the windowsill, which is both visually and functionally inconvenient.

Does anyone have a reliable and long-lasting solution to raise the height of the Kallax module without much effort or expensive remodeling? I’d prefer not to buy a completely new piece of furniture but rather use smart adjustments.

How can the shelf be raised safely and stably so it doesn’t wobble or tip over? I would appreciate practical tips for this specific issue!

The Kallax shelf can be most easily raised to the desired height using sturdy furniture legs. Ikea itself offers some suitable legs, such as the 'Capita' legs, which you can easily screw under the shelf. Alternatively, you can use specially made furniture risers made of wood or metal that are mounted under the feet of the Kallax unit.

Make sure that the riser is even and stable to avoid any risk of tipping. Another option is to build a custom base plate on which the Kallax can be placed. You can, for example, make this from plywood sheets and paint it to give it a homely appearance.

Important: Ensure sufficient stabilization, especially when the shelf is loaded. Screw-mounted solutions are considered the safest option.

Replacing or raising the feet is the quickest solution. You can also place sturdy wooden blocks underneath and protect the floor with furniture pads to prevent scratches.

That’s exactly what I did with my Kallax! I cut a simple plywood board to size, painted it, and added non-slip pads. It looks great and feels really stable. Plus, you can customize the height to your preference.

If you’re reasonably handy, I definitely recommend this. 😊 No worries about wobbling – it stays nice and solid.

I can understand that a height difference in the shelf can be both visually and practically disturbing. I’ve often had the same problem myself after changing a carpet – it always feels really strange at first!

It’s great that some practical tips are already being shared here. If you’re worried that the shelf might become unstable towards the top, you can secure it with brackets or additional wall fasteners.

That really helped me later on, and I hope you find a solution that works well for you too. 🙂

Adjustable furniture legs, which are available at hardware stores or online, are also suitable for raising the height. You can adjust them continuously and screw them on directly.

The advantage is that you can flexibly correct the height later if you make any changes to the floor. Stability remains ensured this way.
