Good morning everyone,
I have a problem with my IKEA KALLAX shelf: after each move, whether it’s a relocation or just rearranging within the room, the shelf loses a noticeable amount of stability. The structure feels wobbly, and sometimes the shelf can even be slightly pressed in or shifted. It’s a classic KALLAX 4x4 with the usual shelves, and I have already checked that all screws are still tight – which seems to be the case.
I suspect that either the original connectors are not stable enough for transportation, or I am doing something wrong during disassembly/reassembly.
Does anyone know this problem and have tips on how to ensure stability even after frequent transport? I’m especially interested in mechanical reinforcements or tricks to keep the frame stable without having to rebuild the entire shelf.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Regarding your question about the shelves: Often, the original KALLAX shelves are just boards placed on one side and do not have direct support in a groove.
Recommendation:
- Screw (or glue) small battens or wooden blocks under the shelves so they cannot slip.
- Alternatively, use the lightly pre-drilled holes in the side panel and insert thin screws into the shelves (not too tight); this secures them without major alterations.
This will prevent the shelves from wobbling or becoming overly stressed during transport.

Use alternative pre-drilled holes in the side panel and carefully screw into the shelves I also think this is a good idea; it ensures the shelves are very firmly secured.
