Hello everyone, I have the following problem: My Kallax shelving unit has become quite warped and twisted after my recent move. Previously, the unit was completely straight, but now it’s clearly twisted and doesn’t stand stable on the floor.

I suspect this happened because of carrying it and placing it on what was probably an uneven surface. My question is: Is it possible to straighten a warped Kallax shelving unit without it falling apart or sustaining permanent damage? And if so, what exactly should I do? Are there any special techniques or tools that could help?

I would appreciate any advice, as I would like to keep the shelving unit. Thanks in advance!

Thank you all for your suggestions! This basically confirms my expectation that I will probably have to completely dismantle everything.

I have a few questions: How likely is it that the connector holes will be damaged? Are there any special techniques to avoid enlarging or deforming them?

Also, are plastic dowels easier to preserve than metal fittings, or is it the other way around? Are there any tools that are best to use during disassembly to minimize damage to the connectors?

I look forward to hearing about your experiences!

This rarely happens if you proceed carefully. Patience and gentle levering movements help.

Plastic dowels can be a bit more delicate, so unscrew them slowly.

I usually use screwdrivers with the correct head and a small plastic spatula to gently loosen the connections. Avoid using too much force! 🙂

I recommend precision screwdrivers or Allen keys, depending on the type of connector. Additionally, manual dexterity is crucial.

Regarding durability: repeated disassembly can wear out the material, especially plastic. So it’s up to you to decide whether preserving the shelf is worth the effort or if it’s better to get a new one.

Make sure the screws are securely tightened during reassembly; otherwise, the condition may deteriorate again quickly.

Just a quick interjection: Keep in mind that some Kallax models may have different dimensions for the connection holes depending on the year of production.

That means if you need a replacement part, it can sometimes be tricky.

I usually resort to wood glue and small drops of super glue when a hole has become a bit worn out. It holds surprisingly well and dries quickly! 🙂

I can confirm: yes, it can happen easily if you’re not careful. I often used a rubber mallet and gentle tapping to avoid damage. When disassembling, place the parts on a smooth surface and pull them apart carefully.

Patience really helps the most here.
