ᐅ My Kallax unit always catches on the door – would furniture sliders help?

Hello everyone,
I have a rather specific issue with my IKEA Kallax shelf, which is placed right next to the door in my hallway. The shelf keeps catching on the door with a corner or one of its edges when I open or close the door. This is not only annoying but also risks damaging the paint or wood if I’m not careful.
Now I’m wondering if furniture pads under the Kallax edge protectors or at points underneath the shelf could help. Has anyone had experience with this? If so, which type of furniture pad works best – felt, plastic, or maybe something else? And is it even practical to place furniture pads exactly where the contact with the door happens?
I’d appreciate any practical advice on how to solve this problem permanently.

For additional information: felt furniture pads provide good protection but can lose their adhesive strength due to moisture. Plastic pads are more durable; however, the door may rattle more easily when bumped.
Another option is to attach a thin spacer or small strip to the back of the shelf facing the door, preventing the edge of the door from touching the furniture.
This small adjustment often has a significant effect.

Even a few millimeters of clearance between the shelf and the door frame can prevent the door from sticking.

I would recommend this method as well. It is permanent, does not damage the door or furniture, and allows space for movement.
I would first optimize the base surface and then combine it with gliders to achieve the best result.

Great tips especially from Leonardteo and vinli! 🙂
I just wanted to add: Pay attention to how you apply the furniture sliders. Some people simply stick them on and that’s it – often, they don’t last long that way.
I cleaned the surface first with an alcohol pad, carefully attached the sliders, and then let them set for 24 hours before moving the shelf. This way, they hold really well, and you get longer-lasting results.
Good luck with your project, and I hope you’ll share how it goes!
