Hello everyone,

We are planning to integrate a multimedia system in our house, which is still in the design phase, and want to consider the necessary costs now.

The system should be able to do the following:
  • Equip every room with speakers
  • Be controlled from a central location (tablet), allowing the same music (or internet radio) to be played simultaneously in multiple rooms
  • Additionally, connect the TV, so that the TV audio can also be played in another room

Which systems do you recommend for this? What costs should we expect? Does it make sense to install wiring for this, or is it better to control it wirelessly?

Thank you very much for your tips and experience reports.

even though this topic is quite old:
it’s simple to set up with some speaker cables and a decent receiver in any room. modern receivers can be controlled by any good tablet (for example, Apple AirPlay). using the receiver’s "zones," you can assign which input signal (for example, TV, satellite, radio, etc.) should play in which zone (speaker/room).
if you also install HDMI cables inside the walls, you basically have everything you need. 🙂

cost estimate: 100m (330 feet) roll of speaker cable 4mm² (11 AWG) in pure copper = 120€
HDMI cable: 1–2€/m (0.3–0.6€/ft) length

a receiver capable of this properly: for example, Denon 4100 or its successor Denon 4200
