Hello everyone, I recently bought a KALLAX shelf from IKEA and want to move it on my laminate floor because the space wasn’t ideal and I want to rearrange it. My question is: How likely is it that the shelf will leave marks or scratches on the laminate when moving it? I don’t have furniture pads under the feet, and the floor is quite sensitive. Are there any special tips or materials I can use to make moving it as gentle on the floor as possible? Thanks in advance for your experiences and advice!

I find moving without any protection almost negligent I agree with this assessment, but it’s also important to consider that laminate flooring varies in durability. Some types of laminate are more scratch-resistant, while others are very sensitive.
Another point: The load also varies depending on whether the shelf is standing on rubber feet or directly on the bare wooden surface. Have you taken that into account?
Generally, I don’t just see the risk of scratches, but also potential pressure marks when you lift and set the furniture down again.
My advice: Start with a thorough assessment of the floor. When in doubt, get furniture glides – they often save more than you might expect.

When in doubt, get glidersThank you for the detailed assessment! I understand that my laminate flooring should be relatively scratch-resistant due to its sealed surface coating, but it still needs to be better protected from moving furniture.
I will definitely get felt gliders now and make sure to move the furniture slowly and with two people. Your input has been very helpful, especially raising awareness of the different types of furniture feet.
Do you have any tips on how to best clean the contact surfaces before attaching the gliders? I want to make sure the gliders adhere optimally.
