Good day,

I need your advice once again.

I want to hang a wall shelf. I bought a Bosch multi-detector, which shows metal/pipes/cables (indicated by yellow/red lights on the detector) in at least 50% of the wall area and especially in the spot where I plan to mount the shelf. So, there is some kind of metal inside the wall. The wall separates the living room from the bathroom (bathtub and washing machine connection), and there is another apartment above us. The shelf is supposed to be mounted at about 1.70m (5 ft 7 in) height. There are several power outlets in the lower part of the wall, but based on my research online, I assume the cables probably run downwards toward the floor.

The landlord unfortunately does not have any building plans. Should I just drop this idea? Or would it be better to consult a professional? What would you do?

Best regards
bpe

Solid Wall or Drywall?

I would say it’s a solid wall; it sounds that way when you tap on it. Regards

Does anyone have any advice? Otherwise, I would avoid it. Or is it worth consulting a professional? Who would you contact for this? Thanks and regards

On which side is the shelf supposed to be installed? The detector is useless; it shows signals all over my new build, even though the wall is solid calcium silicate brick and contains no wiring at all.

Well, on another wall it glows green except in the area around the light switch. So, at first glance, the device seems to be reliable.

The shelf is going to be mounted in the living room.
