Hello,
I want to install an IP camera on the exterior wall above the front door. The model is still undecided.
The main purpose is to see who is currently standing at the door.
There is a standard 60mm (2.4 inches) flush-mounted electrical box in the wall, which contains a network cable.
The camera will be powered through this.
I see two options for installation:
1. Mount the camera next to the box and accept visible wiring
2. Mount the camera directly on the electrical box.
I would prefer the second option.
Do you have any tips on the best way to mount the camera onto the box?
Are there suitable adapters available for flush-mounted electrical boxes?
Best regards,

Mounting the camera directly onto the junction box is not a good idea in my opinion. Even if adapters were available for this, I wouldn’t consider it secure enough. The box itself is made of plastic only. Depending on the weight of the camera and weather conditions, it wouldn’t surprise me if it eventually breaks off. Then you would have to replace the entire box, including the surrounding plaster, etc. It’s better to attach the camera directly to the wall above the junction box. Take a look at the Blink XT – that’s the one we’re planning to get.

Are there suitable "adapters" for flush-mounted boxes? It depends on the junction box and the camera model. There are many adapters available for various cameras that can be securely mounted on or inside junction boxes,

So, the base sits on (above) the box, with anchors next to or above and below it. (Better dome cameras, for example from Axis or somewhat more affordable manufacturers.) Don’t forget the appropriate sealing! Also, not every camera accepts a field-terminable RJ45 connector. In that case, you need an RJ45 module on the cable, followed by an (extremely short) patch cable to the camera. This can get tight if the box is not deep (enough).
