Hello,

According to our soil report, our soil class is between 4 and 7. Because of the sloped site, a significant amount of excavation will be necessary.
Is there a way to monitor the excavation? I want to avoid the company claiming afterward that, for example, 150m³ (200 cubic yards) instead of the actual 50m³ (65 cubic yards) of soil class 6 was excavated and removed.

Does anyone have any ideas or personal experience with this? Thanks!

Of course, hire external expertise.

The company will issue an invoice later; if you have doubts then, you can ask questions and, for example, request to see supporting documents. You can also ask them now to collect proof, such as receipts from the landfill or disposal site. Additionally, you can estimate yourself how much excavation material is reasonable (length times width times height, plus assumptions or researched values for bulk densities, etc.).

A friend of mine actually noticed discrepancies with the excavation and saved quite a bit of money. So there seems to be potential for savings.

It is also a good strategy to hire an independent site supervisor (expert or similar) who looks carefully especially at the start and provides critical feedback. This reportedly makes the contractors and workers more aware that they must do a proper job on the site because someone is watching.
