Hello everyone,

we recently moved into a Kampa prefabricated house built in 2006.

Since the floor on the ground floor has settled quite noticeably, we are currently renewing the silicone joints.

At one spot, water seems to have gotten in because the previous owner had plants everywhere, and I know there was one right above that area. Apparently, water entered the joint while watering the plants.

It looks like we will have to replace part of the drywall.

I would be very grateful if you could answer a few questions for me.

- Since this is a prefabricated house, the vapor barrier shown in the photo is probably the damp proof membrane. Can I leave the area temporarily open until we fix the problem? Possibly cover it with a plastic sheet?

- In your opinion, is it sufficient to replace only a part of the membrane and cut out a piece of drywall to fit over it?

- The membrane was not glued but just overlapped. Does it need to be specially sealed?

- Would you recommend removing the surrounding tiles and addressing the area near the window, or even removing the window? Or does it require removing more to access the beams?

Honestly, I’m a bit overwhelmed by this. Do you think a professional contractor is absolutely necessary? I would prefer to do it myself to save costs.

Thank you in advance for your helpful answers.

Best regards

Dennis
