ᐅ Mold in the Kitchen

I have a question. In the kitchen, between the wall and the edge of the sink, there is a silicone seal. I have noticed that along the silicone strip, there appears to be a bit of mold. It's not a thick layer or anything, just a little. The wall itself is fine. Now I'm wondering what I could do about it. 😕

Best regards,

Hi!

I had a similar problem once. I used a cleaner like the one from Meister Propper. It made removing the mold quite easy. Judging by the smell, the cleaner must contain a good amount of vinegar, as it also removes limescale very well. To be safe, I sprayed some disinfectant on it afterwards. So far, I haven’t had any more problems with mold.

Best regards

Scrape off the mold (caution, do not inhale!), disinfect with an anti-mold spray, and ventilate the area thoroughly. Remove everything affected, so if necessary, scrape off all the plaster and simply replaster (this is better in the long run than letting the mold continue to grow and ruin your entire kitchen). Then, seal it again with silicone.

Get to work! Don’t waste any time 🙂

Hello

Once mold appears and is not properly removed, it will keep returning. It is very important to thoroughly disinfect all affected surfaces that can be wiped clean and, if necessary, replace the parts or the wall that have mold growth. Mold will always find a way to come back if it has not been correctly removed.

Hi,
you can first try using a chlorine-based cleaner, but if the mold has already grown inside the silicone sealant, that won’t help anymore. In that case, you will need to completely remove the silicone and re-seal it. It’s unfortunate, but I don’t know of any other way to get rid of the mold.

You need to remove the old silicone and apply new silicone. There are special types designed for damp areas. These include a barrier that prevents new mold from forming. That’s the only advice I can give you; it’s the only thing that will help.
