Hello,
this is my first post, and I hope I’ve found the right subforum:
I would like to build a simple sideboard / lowboard / TV unit and was thinking of a white carcass with a wooden top.
That should explain my idea. I also found a dresser with a wooden top in the current IKEA catalog on page 179 (Metod cabinet combination with Bodbyn front in gray). It measures 164 x 41 x 92 cm (W x D x H) and has a Möllekulla worktop on top, but I can’t find this depth for a Möllekulla worktop anywhere. Online, all worktops seem to have the standard depth of about 63 cm (25 inches).
Where can I find these special sizes of worktops? Or do I have to cut them myself?
Thanks and regards

You can have a Personlig panel custom-made to your desired dimensions at IKEA ... it does cost a bit more, of course.
Regards,

IKEA-Experte3 Feb 2016 12:37Hello, whether to choose Besta or Metod depends on several factors:
Which system offers the desired fronts?
What weight will the cabinets need to support?
Should they be wall-mounted or free-standing?
Will the television be placed on top or mounted with a bracket to the cabinet body or the wall?
Do you want to use drawers? Should they be full-extension or just partial-extension? Which option suits my storage needs better? Do I want handleless fronts?
What is my budget?
How much effort am I willing to invest?

Thank you for your replies,
what is the approximate cost for a cut-to-size piece?
- Desired front will likely be a simple white front
- Load will remain fairly light
- TV will be placed on top
- Whether it will be wall-mounted or not is still under discussion
- Drawers are not necessary
Which series would you prefer?

IKEA-Experte4 Feb 2016 16:56Straight cuts at the hardware store usually cost around 2€ (about $2). However, not every store offers this service, so it’s best to ask in advance.
There isn’t enough edge banding included with the countertop for the lengthwise cut. You don’t necessarily have to cover the back edge, but I personally find exposed edges unattractive.
I would choose METOD.
