Hello everyone,

Our house is currently being renovated. It was built in the 1960s. A new front door has already been installed, a standard one with a door lock, etc.

The outdated doorbell system is now due for an upgrade, and I’ve started doing some research online. There seems to be a huge range of options, and I’m starting to lose track. Maybe you could recommend a manufacturer or solution? Where would be the best place to start looking?

Smart home features would be great... So, controlling the door opening via smartphone or, alternatively, if someone forgets their key, opening the door with a code or fingerprint. Video would be nice, but audio-only would also work. There are three apartments in the house that need to be connected, and I believe the old doorbell system uses two wires. It would be fantastic if you could customize the ringtone individually as well.

Do you have any product recommendations? Or where would be a good place to learn more about this topic? I’m a complete beginner when it comes to this.

Best regards and thanks! 🙂

This would apply if you already have an electric door opener, like in most apartment buildings with an intercom system. You could potentially replace that relatively easily with the mediator.

Motorized locks, on the other hand, need to be installed in the door itself. In that case, the power and signal cables must be routed from the frame through the door hinge area and then inside the door to the motorized lock. That’s how I had it retrofitted in my place.

I will check that. Yes, it is definitely electric.
