First of all, hello everyone!

Given the current situation where staying home is recommended, I’ve decided to reactivate the shower in our basement. It was in use until about two years ago but started leaking heavily from the concealed mixing valve (is that the correct term?). In the end, we found a lever position where it no longer dripped and just left it at that.

Now I wanted to take a closer look, so I removed the lever, the plate behind it, and a chrome cover. I then tried to unscrew the internal part, but it’s stuck so tightly that it’s already become distorted.

Am I even turning it in the right place? There were contact surfaces for a 46mm (1.8 inch) wrench, at least.
If I apply more force and end up breaking the internal part... can I get a replacement quickly at a regular hardware store? The problem is that there’s no separate shut-off valve for the shower, so I have to turn off the water for the entire house.

I was hoping to simply remove the part, soak it in a descaling solution, and replace any visible seals. But as I said, I can’t even get it out. Do you have any tips?

Best regards,
Thomas
