Hello everyone, the ventilation ducts run through a small storage room on the ground floor. During the interior plastering, a strip about 30cm (12 inches) wide along the pipes was left unplastered. Since this is an external wall, the question is whether it is absolutely necessary to plaster that section. I hope the picture makes clear what I mean. The adjacent wall is an internal wall.
Thank you

Thank you
Exposed brickwork is typically found only on concrete structures and usually on interior walls that do not face the outside. However, concrete is naturally airtight as well.
Unfortunately, I cannot provide a definite answer regarding timber framing. There might be an airtightness membrane involved somewhere, or as you mentioned, it may be intentionally built to be open. Leaks only become problematic if they are small, because these create high airflow rates.
To put it simply, if it whistles loudly, you probably won’t have an issue. However, your energy costs will then soar to infinity because your thermal envelope effectively doesn’t exist.
