Hello everyone,

does anyone know the minimum size required for the utility room?
We are getting a geothermal heat pump and a central ventilation system.
What else needs to be installed there besides the electrical panel?
At the moment, the room is 2.3 m x 3.2 m (7.5 ft x 10.5 ft).
Would that be enough?
And are there any noise issues if there is a bedroom directly above?
Thanks.

Best regards

The size and dimensions of the units are known. It is probably a compact ground-source heat pump with an integrated domestic hot water tank. This requires very little floor space. Additionally, there will be the mechanical ventilation system on the wall with its ducts and pipes, as well as the electrical distribution board. Connections needed: water (for the heat pump’s storage tank), electricity, and the ground loop pipes. In my opinion, there is definitely enough space — especially since you have a separate utility room.

Noise: if the base is suitable (sound insulation), the heat pump should not cause any disturbance.

Our utility room is just over 14 m² (150 sq ft) and will contain the following equipment:

- Air-to-water heat pump (complete)
- Controlled mechanical ventilation system
- Inverter
- All house connections
- Fuse box
- Washing machine
- Dryer

We should also be able to fit one or two drying racks in there.
