Hello,
we want to build a patio roof. Which LED spotlights would you recommend?
Should we use 12V/24V or connect directly to 230V and save the transformer?
What would you recommend?

But the other transformers that are dimmable work, and it doesn’t have to be DALI, right? That’s true. I’ve just been unlucky with the quality and noticed too much flickering when dimming, for my taste. In the children’s apartments, it’s not that bad because they aren’t dimmed much. So I haven’t changed it there yet.
General rule: the deeper you dim, the more likely flickering becomes.

Does anyone know good LED spots with a 3000K color temperature and a cut-out diameter of 27mm (1 inch)? There are definitely several options – but I can’t recommend any specific product due to lacking detailed knowledge. The smaller the light source diameter (which is technically fixed for you), the stronger the glare tendency. Therefore, I’d definitely choose a model with a diffuser lens. Maybe buy some spares just in case. It’s annoying when a fixture fails and that model is no longer available. I’ve had that experience myself. The costs and storage effort are usually manageable.
Regarding the question “is that enough”:
With the 3.3W Luxvenum, which is supposed to correspond to a 25W halogen bulb, you get a total luminous flux of about 3500 lumens. As a rule of thumb, 100–150 lm/m² (93–14 lm/ft²) is recommended for living spaces. This gives you a rough idea of how bright the room will be without dimming.
About color temperature:
2700K is the classic incandescent bulb color. Many perceive it as “yellowish.” This perception is rarely used at 3000K. If you want to avoid “yellowish light” but still keep it as “cozy” as possible, you’re on the right track. At 3500K, you still won’t get the impression that the light is “cold.”
Regarding CRI:
All other things being equal, I would prefer the higher CRI and be willing to pay a higher price for it. But it’s better to have the right amount and distribution of light in the right color than to optimize CRI at all costs. Maybe I emphasized that a bit too strongly.

FrankChief16 Apr 2025 13:14@wiltshire I’m currently struggling with 27mm (1 inch) and can hardly find anything suitable.
Could you check if you can find something?
I might have to persuade the supplier to install a 34mm (1 1/4 inch) hole diameter so I can get them from Luxvenum (they seem to be good).
Do I possibly need to plan for a higher lumen output under a canopy, since there are no walls to reflect the light like in rooms? But with a total of 3500 lumens, I’m already doing quite well.
Maybe instead of having 2 on every rafter, do 18 in total arranged 3 / 2 / 3 / 2 ...
But the quantity is secondary for now.
First, I need LED downlights with 27mm (1 inch) diameter – it’s extremely hard for me to find any.
I’m not familiar with LED downlights at all.

FrankChief16 Apr 2025 14:19I found BESLED veranda spotlights that connect directly to 230V.
Item number: BSE400007
They have 3W and are dimmable,
300 lumens but only a 30-degree beam angle
27mm (1 inch) hole diameter
What do you think of them? The narrow beam angle might be an issue, right?

wiltshire16 Apr 2025 18:43With such a very small hole diameter, I also couldn’t find any model with a diffuser. Presumably, there would be thermal issues in that case. However, if necessary, a diffuser can be manually placed in front quite nicely, leaving some space for heat dissipation from the fixture.
