ᐅ Small Basement – Cost Savings?

Hello,

I recently heard about an alternative to a full basement, called a mini basement. The dimensions are about 3 x 5 m (10 x 16 feet), and that’s it.

Does anyone know this type or has built one? What kind of cost savings does it offer, or approximately how much does a mini basement cost?

None at all… at most about one third cheaper than a full basement.

Take a look at various prefabricated garage suppliers. I came across a garage with a basement once. No idea what it costs, but it might be interesting for you.

I myself only have a partial basement. It wasn’t cheap, but since there was no more space to gain above ground in the house, it had to go underground. Due to neighbors, I only ended up with a two-thirds basement.

Only half of my parents' house has a basement. They still paid a lot for it and now they are facing space issues...

In the case of a so-called mini-basement or partial basement, a relatively large amount of space is lost to the basement entrance/staircase, which reduces the overall space gain even further.

If done properly, there should be no structural issues. However, with a partial basement, cracks can occasionally occur between the floor slab and the partial basement. Differential settlement due to poor compaction or varying load-bearing capacity of the subgrade is a possible cause. A soil survey is advisable, and a competent structural engineer is essential.
