Hello, a simple question: can I use standard mineral wool for the base insulation behind the facing brick, or is there any reason not to?

For this detail, you should use so-called perimeter insulation, which refers to insulation materials designed for use in "components in contact with the ground" and that handle moisture well. Mineral wool can become wet and then lose its insulating properties and structural stability.

Perimeter insulation? I’ve never heard of it before, good thing I asked—I would have otherwise used regular mineral wool. Perimeter insulation is probably available at hardware stores, right?

Yes, exactly, perimeter insulation (usually rigid foam boards made of PU or EPS) can be found at building supply stores.

Mineral wool as base insulation?

No, that is not recommended.

We used EPS insulation boards. These boards provide effective thermal insulation in the base area. There are also no issues with moisture.

Yes, I also bought it at a specialized building supply store. I used EPS, which is expanded polystyrene rigid foam. It provides good insulation for the base area of the building. However, installing this insulation is not so easy. That’s why I consulted a professional.
