Elvis_122010 Sep 2012 22:47This sounds to me like the thread might be damaged. Can you see anything on the screw itself? If not, then the threaded counterpart is likely the problem. One option would be to try multiple times to see if the thread still holds—but of course, there is a risk that it could completely strip.
The best (but most labor-intensive) solution is to use a suitable thread tap to re-cut the thread. Often, it’s just a small section that has become misaligned. Do you have one, or could you borrow one from someone you know?
