Hello,

I thought that on high-gloss surfaces you could see every smudge. Now I realize that you can see everything on my matte surface too.

You can wipe it, but if you don’t clean it perfectly, streaks always show.

Who else has a high-gloss kitchen? And maybe some cleaning tips?

Best regards, Anna

We have a mix of high gloss and wood. You can see fingerprints much more on the high gloss surfaces, but they are also easier to clean.

However, I wouldn’t know if I would want the lower surfaces in high gloss if I had children. You would probably have to wipe them very regularly. With wood, you simply see that less!

Best regards, Bernd

High gloss is not always the same, and the same applies to matte surfaces.

Currently, I have a kitchen with a rather cheap cabinet (pine) and matte finish. It’s quite difficult to clean. However, we are getting another matte kitchen, but with a much higher quality front. It’s less sensitive and much easier to clean (correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe it’s painted, while the cheaper one is laminated—I can’t swear on that).

High gloss finishes also come in many different types. I once saw a kitchen where the fronts were coated with a paint supposedly used for airplanes. You hardly saw any fingerprints on those... of course, it wasn’t cheap. For cleaning, a smooth surface is always easier, which is why gloss is usually wiped clean more quickly. Painted matte surfaces are also smooth and therefore easy to wipe down (unlike my current fronts).

In the end, it’s probably a matter of personal taste. I do like high gloss kitchens—now. But what about in 20 years? I have liked simple matte fronts for over 30 years, I like them now, and I’ll probably still like them in 20 years. That’s why the new kitchen will also be matte, but high quality. Since we are investing in an expensive kitchen, we decided to design it as neutral and timeless as possible so we can enjoy it for a long time.

Regarding cleaning:
There are special cleaners for kitchen fronts. Be sure to test them in an inconspicuous spot first. With my current fronts, spray cleaners leave unsightly spots: the sprayed area becomes really deep-cleaned, but the surrounding area doesn’t *sigh*, and no spray is fine enough to apply perfectly evenly every time. Nowadays, I use a cloth: apply cleaner to the cloth and scrub thoroughly.

I’m really looking forward to our new, high-quality fronts—I can’t even say HOW much!
