ᐅ Martens in the roof insulation – what can I do about it?

Hello,

For a few days now, a marten has been causing trouble in my roof. In a roof junction, it managed to bend the metal sheet (which was probably installed carelessly).

How can I get it out again?

I closed the access point, and there was peace for a few days. But last night, I heard noises again. Now it probably can’t get out anymore.

It is likely between the plasterboard interior lining and the roof membrane, inside the insulation.

It’s obvious that it may have damaged the vapor barrier, insulation, and underlay membrane.

Does anyone have any ideas on what should be done?

Thank you.

No joke: keeping the radio on all the time drives your housemates away. You can do a quick Google search to check on this. Which station exactly works best has to be tested in practice. I guess something like Top 40 or the best hits from the ’80s, ’90s, and today. 😉

So yesterday, for the first time, I was able to see many marten tracks in the garden and on the roof, thanks to fresh snow. The live trap baited with eggs was set up, but the marten ignored it. However, it did find the bait eggs and ate them gratefully.

Now the trap will be placed where the bait eggs were. Let's see who ends up being smarter.

Please keep your fingers crossed—not for the marten. 🙂

Where do you actually take a marten after that? It probably doesn't help much to release it just two streets away... Beyond the border? Without a phone, food, or identification? 😀

Maybe an ultrasonic device, which is said to help mice relocate on their own, could also be effective against martens?

Yes, I would also consider trying this so-called marten repellent. It’s very effective from a marketing point of view, but I’m not sure what the practical experience is.
