ᐅ Labeling Furniture for Moving – How Did You Do It?

Hello everyone,
we are currently thinking about how to label our furniture to show which room it belongs to. We will prepare floor plans of the ground floor and first floor for the movers, indicating the rooms and where each piece of furniture should be set up. However, we would also like to label the individual pieces of furniture themselves with notes about the room they belong to. I believe this would make it easier for the movers than constantly having to look at a separate list and figure out exactly which cabinet is which.

How have you attached such labels without damaging the furniture?
Maybe I’m missing something, but the only thing I can think of are Post-It notes. They definitely wouldn’t damage anything but don’t stick very well.
Any kind of label that sticks better risks either leaving part of the label stuck to the furniture when removed, or taking some of the furniture’s finish off along with the label.

You could at most stick colored sheets on the wrapped furniture and assign a different color to each room. However, I cannot say if that would work in practice.

Not at all. So far, we have spoken with the furniture movers during the move. It worked well . Or do you want to let them handle the entire move by themselves?

We had our furniture and most of the household items stored. No plastic was wasted in the process.
When the movers arrived at the new house, one of us stayed downstairs and the other upstairs to direct them. Of course, we made most changes later on. The main thing was just roughly deciding whether something should go upstairs or downstairs.

If you want to label something, use painter’s tape.

Just as ypg describes. Usually, the boxes (which you can and should label clearly since the contents aren’t visible) and the furniture pieces are not brought into the house at the same time. While the furniture is being moved in, you simply stand in the entrance area and indicate where each piece should go. This is normally done within one to a maximum of two hours.

Okay, I’ll try not to stress too much and just talk with the people.
I just can’t be upstairs and downstairs at the same time, and although I could send my husband up, he’ll probably end up blaming me if he doesn’t know where anything should go.
