ZenohauHello everyone, I am currently researching the topic "Malm furniture lacquer exposed to a heat source – what happens?" and looking for answers to some technical and safety-related questions. Specifically, I am interested in the changes the lacquer undergoes when it comes into direct contact with a heat source.
I am thinking about possible deformations, chemical reactions, or health risks due to fumes.
Does anyone have detailed knowledge of the physical or chemical processes that occur under such conditions in Malm lacquer?
Thank you in advance for your insights and experiences!

Ah, the good old Malm dresser and the heat source – a risky combination! 🙂
So, if the finish gets too hot, it may start to peel. This is not only unpleasant visually but can also release small amounts of harmful substances. But don’t panic, a little heat usually just causes some unsightly spots.
Has anyone ever tested a nice heat spot on their Malm? Maybe accidentally? ;-)

Wow, this topic is really interesting! 🙂
I’ve heard that especially high temperatures can lead to smoldering inside the furniture! This isn’t just a finish issue, but a serious safety risk!
So you really need to be careful when you put a hot coffee cup on a dresser or sideboard. The finish can warp quickly or even start to smoke. Definitely not good if you have small children or pets around!

Better to keep some distance, especially with devices that generate a lot of heat.Exactly, just don’t use the dresser as a base for hot items. Heat sources and varnish don’t mix. That’s usually enough to prevent damage.
