Hello everyone,

I have an issue with my Malm dressers from IKEA: the drawers are increasingly coming loose from the frame, causing them to wobble or in some cases not latch properly at all. The area most affected is the side connection between the drawer box and the front panel. Since I want to keep using the drawers and don’t want to buy replacement furniture right away, I would like to know the best way to securely and permanently fix these drawers again. Are there recommended methods, screws, or special adhesives, or should I consider completely rebuilding the drawers?

I would really appreciate any tips, instructions, or personal experiences with Malm drawers!

Screws with a diameter of 3–4 mm (0.12–0.16 inches) and a length of about 15–20 mm (0.6–0.8 inches) are sufficient to ensure a secure hold.

I completely agree with this, and I would add that care should be taken not to drive the screws too deep. Excessive pressure could otherwise damage the particle board. It is also advisable to install the brackets slightly offset compared to the original mounting to better distribute the load.

Thank you very much for the numerous helpful contributions and explanations! I will try the tips with the wooden dowels, glue, and interior brackets. I find the advice on pre-drilling and the correct screw size especially useful for preserving the material.

If I succeed or encounter further problems, I will get back to you. I might then add a guide specifically for Malm drawer beginners.
