Hello everyone, I have a major problem with the drawer handles on my IKEA Malm dressers. They have been damaged multiple times or even broken off completely, although I use them carefully. I suspect that the attachment method or the material is not ideal, especially with frequent use of the drawers. Has anyone experienced something similar and maybe has tips on how to improve the durability of the Malm drawer handles? Are there alternative fastening methods, reinforcements, or replacement parts that are more sturdy? I look forward to your suggestions!

A targeted reinforcement would be to attach a strip with a larger bearing surface on the back side when extending the front. That makes a lot of sense to me. I will try it at the next opportunity, even if it requires a bit more effort.
One more question: Could overtightening the screws damage the handles, or should they actually be tightened quite firmly?
Thanks to all of you for the valuable tips; the collection is already very helpful!
I really appreciate how motivated you all are with this project.
I went through a similar experience with the handles and felt a bit frustrated myself.
Sometimes it helps to reduce the stress on the hardware by not opening or closing the drawers roughly. That might sound obvious, but it can really extend their lifespan.
Keep at it—this isn’t something that can be solved with a simple tip, but together we’ll make progress!

I also tried other handles from Amazon with metal and reinforced screws
