Hello everyone...

An office is going to be insulated inside a workshop.
Below the office is a large storage hall that is not heated. Above the office is another floor, but it is only a storage room. The ceiling is made of wood. Only one side of the office is directly adjacent to an exterior wall.
All walls are at least 20-30cm (8-12 inches) thick.

I would like to:
- Insulate the ceiling from the inside with 120mm (5 inches) insulation
- Insulate the floor from the inside with two layers of 5cm (2 inches) foam board

Since the ceiling and floor are inside the building, is it possible to do internal insulation?
Is insulating the floor worthwhile?
Or should the ceiling of the storage hall below be insulated? However, the area needing insulation is not above the entire storage hall ceiling.

Thank you for your help!

Hello,

If it is not possible to fully insulate the floor or ceiling from the outside, doing it from the inside is an option; it is important to use a compressive insulation material in the floor area. This will naturally increase the floor height, which must be taken into account for the doors.

Walls can also be insulated from the inside, although external insulation is always preferable. At least some living space would be lost otherwise.
