We are looking for a freestanding parcel mailbox – one of those where the delivery person can drop off packages and that has an additional compartment on top for regular mail.

We would also like a system where packages can be deposited from above by any delivery person (airlock system) rather than one with a lock that only allows the first delivery person to unload, after which the parcel compartment is locked (or if the delivery person doesn’t lock it, then anyone can access it).

Since we won’t have a fence and this box should be delivery person–friendly and accessible from the street, it needs to be freestanding.

Has anyone had experience with such a mailbox? Which manufacturer would you recommend? Because it will be placed by the street without any shelter, it must be weatherproof and not rust easily. Appearance: modern, please no cute or old-fashioned styles reminiscent of the turn of the last century or similar.

It’s amazing how many packages are being shipped around! How many packages do you usually receive per month? For most cases, a simple design like the Guardi Easy Drop Box should be sufficient, right?

We have installed a wooden parcel box with a simple flip lid. It measures approximately 130 x 50 x 60 cm (51 x 20 x 24 inches), so it can hold quite a bit. It is placed against the house wall under the roof overhang. Delivery personnel really like using it because it is straightforward and hassle-free. No squeezing or fiddling around for a long time. Inside, there is also a sign indicating that this is the parcel box, to avoid any confusion.

This kind of solution only works in “safe neighborhoods” and where it fits the local situation. There is no universal solution anyway; everyone has to decide what works best for them.

But the idea is good – since it is really secure here, this is probably the most cost-effective solution for us.

However, we removed the inlet. This allows the box to be well ventilated, as the inlet caused moisture buildup.

My box is the terrace. When no one is around, it goes under the patio table. Done. Generally, nothing gets stolen here.
