Hi!

We would really appreciate some quick ideas, as we can only present a new proposal later this week.

Unfortunately, we only noticed quite late that the developer planned a relatively short glass partition for the open shower (about 85cm (33 inches)). Now we’re a bit worried about frequent water splashes throughout half of the bathroom.

The bathroom is only 10 m² (108 sq ft) in size, measuring 2.85 x 3.55 m (9.4 x 11.6 ft). As shown in the sketch, we have two windows, which don’t exactly make the planning easier. The bathtub will be 180 x 80 cm (71 x 31 inches) and the vanity with double sinks will be 120–140 cm (47–55 inches) wide.

I already looked it up and found references to these so-called “T-walls.” However, I can’t find any practical ideas on how they could be planned in this case.

Do you have any suggestions, or is the concern about the shower partition unnecessary?

Best regards & thanks for your help!

Hi!

Unfortunately, Jochen’s preferred option is too expensive through our builder due to the corner bathtub. So once again, we would appreciate your feedback on the following proposals:

Good luck & many thanks!

Unfortunately, neither option will work well because your passage into the shower is just under 50cm (20 inches) wide. It will feel very cramped, and if you are ever unwell (using walking aids) or even slightly overweight, it will become impossible.

We based our measurements on the size of the opening currently in our apartment. There, we have a shower with two sliding panels. When fully open, the opening measures 45cm (18 inches). In the two proposed options, it is 51cm (20 inches) in option 1 and 55cm (22 inches) in option 2.

Is it really that tight? Otherwise, we are running out of ideas. As mentioned, a corner bathtub is too expensive and also too small (lying area – I am 1.89m (6'2") tall).

Good luck

I wouldn’t start with a clear passage width under 60cm (24 inches). You also have to consider that you are probably working with rough opening measurements here. On each side, tiling will add another 1.5 to 2cm (0.6 to 0.8 inches) for wall construction (tile adhesive and tiles). That narrows things down even more.
Besides, you want to allow yourselves some comfort in the house and not just rely on your previous situation, right?

In the two options you mentioned, you only used a 1.70m (5 ft 7 in) bathtub anyway.

Thank you for your effort!
You are right about what you mentioned... but how else? As you can see, even with a new build, we are willing to make compromises (1.70 x 0.75m (5 ft 7 in x 2 ft 6 in) bathtub... we originally wanted 1.80 x 0.8m (5 ft 11 in x 2 ft 7 in)), but it just doesn’t fit.

Good luck

How about option 1 with the toilet next to the shower on the lower wall of the plan? This way, you could save the cost of a drywall construction on one side.
