Hello,

our KfW 70 house includes the ventilation system from Lunos. Normally, this is installed by the general contractor. However, when I checked the prices for the individual units and saw that Lunos now offers a KNX control system (meaning I can omit the voltage converter and the switch), I considered installing the units myself.

Has anyone done this before? Is there anything special to consider? I plan to use the polystyrene module that can be built in directly, with the duct and fan installed behind it.

As far as I know, the duct should have a slight slope outward to allow any water to drain. It must be glued into the polystyrene and then wired normally to the KNX controller. But is there anything else I should be aware of?

When the expanded polystyrene blocks do not fit properly...

Those are usually installed at the same time as the Ytong blocks (instead of the Ytong), and then the plaster goes on top... so honestly, I’m less worried about that. The only question is what’s better... the polystyrene block or a core drilling?

The question is more about which option is more cost-effective for you. In principle, there is no real difference as long as both are installed completely airtight.

Hi, we also have Lunos e2 and KNX. Since we don’t need insulation on the exterior wall (our bricks are filled), we chose the version with drilling. However, if I were building with insulation, I would opt for the version installed in the window reveal, as it is less noticeable—although the drill holes are not that large either. They are said to be the smallest decentralized fans available.
