Hello everyone,

I can’t quite find a good video doorbell.

As mentioned above, a monitor with video for the intercom system should be installed both on the ground floor and the upper floor.

Has anyone already installed this and can share their experience with us?

Thanks & good luck & Merry Christmas

No problem. I just have a slight allergy to half-knowledge It’s not universally compatible, of course, since it’s made of metal and very, very slim. However, it is available for almost every series. Fortunately, Apple devices tend to have a fairly long lifespan and rarely change their shape within the series across generations.

Well, not really. In the 2018 to 2019 generation, Apple changed the size from under 10 to over 10. The Basalte mount isn’t exactly cheap. When switching iPads, it’s not unlikely that the mount will need to be replaced as well, right?

Edit: I just checked, and for the Air, the thing costs more than the iPad at that retailer. The Air was only recently revived. So it could just as well disappear again quickly.

No, it isn’t. But such changes, as history shows, don’t happen very often. And if they do, you just keep using the device for a few more years. You don’t need the latest hardware to run a single app. Besides, Apple still provides regular updates for relatively old devices. I wouldn’t worry about that at all. However, if spending money every 6-7 years is too much for you, then maybe you’re not the right customer for Basalte. There are cheaper frames available, but they just aren’t as nice.

Edit: I just checked... an iPad Air 2 from 2014 still receives the latest iPad OS today!

Let’s put it this way: my computer cost me 3,500 Euros just for fun. My speakers cost me a lot of money. Our mattress and bed frame also cost a lot. And so on...
But a tablet holder that I have to go to, when I could just go to a table or the thing often just lies where I spend my time anyway, and that costs as much as an iPad itself, really doesn’t make me want to become a Basalte customer.
To keep the analogy with my computer, I would never think of buying a 3,000 Euro case for the expensive hardware. It was an expensive, functional case, yes. But it accounted for “only” 5% of the total price. And I can use it “forever.”
But so what, that’s fine. Everyone to their own taste. I learned something about Basalte. So in that sense, this short discussion was valuable.

Isn’t it a bit uneconomical to mount an iPad on the wall just for the video from the door intercom system?

Also, what about the battery? Does it affect the battery to have it constantly plugged in?

It is not ideal to keep the battery at 100% charge all the time, but in practice, it does not really matter.

Why is it inefficient? Of course, you can also use any Android tablet. Then it’s just Android. If you mean tablets in general: Have you checked how much something like that costs at Siedle?

I think the question is whether it might be disproportionate to mount a tablet on the wall for just one application.
