I am looking for a program where I can fully 3D model my existing house and use this model to plan the following:

- Insulation
- Pipes and wiring (water, electricity, sewage)
- Switches and similar components
- Smart home devices and their wiring

Is there such a program? (So far, I have only found ones that don’t offer smart home planning options.)
If yes, can anyone recommend such a program?

It doesn’t have to be free software; I am happy to pay for extensive features.

Perhaps you should list the ones you have found so far that do not meet your requirements.

I could list every program that appears on the first two Google pages when searching for "3D house design software," but that should actually be irrelevant to answering my question. After all, I am looking for people who know such software and have already used it for the purposes mentioned.

Maybe this recent reading tip will help you: https://www.hausbau-forum.de/threads/umbau-altbau-grundrisseinteilung-kuechenloesung-gesucht.44129/page-7#post-595863

The tricky word here is "existing." Depending on the age, construction type, and remodeling plans, switches and cables are minor issues compared to the complex technical survey of the building’s current condition. If your focus is only on adding insulation and making the house "smart," programs designed for new house planning can work well, and you basically only need a scan for data capture. However, the closer your work approaches a gut renovation, the more critical qualified forensic analysis becomes.

Well, then you probably used the wrong search terms 😉

A Google search for "CAD software with electrical planning function" leads, for example, to Arcadia... basic software for which you can purchase many add-on modules. Base price is 219 euros plus add-on modules ranging from 160 to 450 euros each.

EDIT: Such software usually requires quite a bit of training to be used effectively.

I have been working with Cadvilla Professional 11 and here is a brief report:

I often found it frustrating how cumbersome it is to create more specialized elements, such as light wells. On the other hand, the semi-automatic creation of doors and windows with numerous details, where you can input exact measurements, is quite convenient.

A great feature is the ability to use 2D plans as background images and adjust the scale, allowing you to easily draw walls directly over the 2D plan. However, the visual quality of the 3D modeling is poor; everything appears very pixelated. The animation of plants, for example, is terrible. If you expect the graphical quality of modern computer games, you will be very disappointed. You can, of course, purchase higher-quality 3D object collections for a significant additional cost.

The landscaping tools also leave much to be desired, such as creating an excavation pit. This requires tedious workarounds like drawing duplicate contour lines.

Another major issue is importing 3D .DXF files. If a file is not imported correctly, you cannot even break the object down into individual elements and label them—for example, marking a surface as a door or a wall. I hired a freelancer for 100€ to convert my 2D plans into 3D models, but unfortunately, the house was imported only as a fixed, unmodifiable 3D object.

While Cadvilla includes many 3D objects, they often look outdated or cannot be modified. Models of larger appliances, such as washing machines, heat pumps, ventilation systems, etc., from major manufacturers are also missing.

On a positive note, you can place photovoltaic modules on your own roof, roughly model neighboring houses (there is a semi-automatic mode for creating houses and roofs), and then simulate the sun’s movement (solar position data is retrieved directly from the internet). This allows you to see any shadowing on the modules.

Unfortunately, smart home integration is not supported.
