ᐅ Looking for a good lighting solution for the attic space

Hello everyone,

I would like to prepare our attic for the future, meaning it will most likely become a bedroom (children’s room or bedroom :-)).

Possible uses for us (initially):

- Storage space
- A shared retreat for the children
- Guest room

The roof pitch is approximately 30°.

Question:
I would like to bring more light into the attic.

Next to the entrance (west side), a small bathroom is planned.

Where else would you suggest adding windows, and which types?

Wishing you all a great weekend!

Best regards

A quick note about the gable windows. If the room on the south side is to be divided roughly in the middle, the current window is not ideal. Perhaps an additional window could be added to the gable on the north side.

I understand... but if anything, I would currently prefer an open-plan layout.

My idea was that the front door and the partition wall next to it should be made of glass, so that natural light from the stairwell can be carried through (not sure if that makes technical sense :-)?).

I am planning to install floor-to-ceiling windows in our home.

Modern living room in the attic with large skylights, sofa, and colorful cushions.

Skylight in the bedroom lets in bright light, view of trees.

The knee wall will be at 0 or not raised at all, because according to the architect, the building would look too bulky from the outside. The clear ceiling height for the ground floor and first floor is planned to be 2.60 m (8.5 ft).

I have already seen with some roof windows that a minimum pitch of 35° (35 degrees) is required, which wouldn’t work for us.

At the moment, I am leaning towards tilt-and-turn windows.

Then take a look at Velux roof window strips, which are the second type of window without a knee wall. The upper part is an awning window, suitable for roof pitches between 15° and 55° Celsius (59°F and 131°F).

Don’t underestimate the sloped ceilings. I also don’t see any division. It could, however, become a small attic room for the adult daughter or similar:
