Hello everyone,

it’s time for a new bed for our little one. He wants a loft bed, and we want to make that happen for him. We have seen a few options and are wondering if having a slide attached to the bed might be dangerous or if it’s nothing to worry about. Our little one would definitely be very happy about it, but as a father, I am still quite cautious about that. What are your thoughts on this?

Best regards

How old is he? I think a loft bed is generally suitable from around 6 years old. Why not include a slide? However, it might soon seem a bit too "childish." It’s a tricky balance. At least the slide can be removed later.

I personally find a slide in the children's room to be very dangerous. A bed is simply meant for sleeping, not for playing, but of course, everyone has to decide that for themselves.

I think for small ones, it’s better without.

Hi Perker,
I think it depends on your little one. I believe a loft bed always carries some risk, with or without a slide. For my son, I made the loft bed high enough so he could sit up and read on top and play underneath. Since he was a very restless sleeper, I attached a beam to the ceiling and secured a self-knotted net between the bed and the beam. It was both safe and cool at the same time. The ladder was lockable to prevent him from falling. After a short time, the ladder became uninteresting because climbing the net was easier 😀. Unfortunately, there was one downside: my wife said if the bed has to be that high, I would have to make the bed in the future because she wouldn’t climb up there.
