we are planning to build a single-family house with an air-source heat pump. Most likely, we will use a THZ504 or the smaller model, depending on the energy demand which still needs to be calculated.
The intended location for the unit is in the basement, with the fresh air supply for the compact system coming through a ventilation grille at 2 meters (6.6 feet) height in the exterior wall. So far, so good. For my own understanding, I have a question regarding the placement of this air intake.
Does it make a difference if the fresh air is drawn in from the south or the shaded north side? Currently, the plan is to take the fresh air from the closest point, which is the driveway facing south. I imagine it might get quite warm there in summer due to the paving stones and garage door, with the heat lingering longer. Would it make sense to accept a small extra cost and position the intake behind the house on the north side? The air there should be cooler thanks to the lawn area and the shade. However, these would also be arguments against it in winter.
As I said: purely for my understanding – my wife is already shaking her head wondering what I’m thinking about. 🙂 🤨
Thanks in advance for your input.
