Hello everyone,

We are planning to build, and the development area will be connected to a local district heating network. There is a construction cost surcharge of nearly 12,000 EUR (about 12,000 USD), which must be paid regardless of whether you use the network or not. This surcharge includes a connection capacity of up to 5.5 kW.

A brine-to-water heat pump will be provided.

Here are my questions:
1. Is the connection capacity sufficient for a 160 sq m (1,720 sq ft) house?
2. Does the home builder need to install any additional equipment besides underfloor heating?
3. An example calculation assumes an annual consumption of 9.3 MWh. Is this realistic or rather optimistic?
4. Although the heating system is provided by the local utility company, am I still eligible for subsidies?

Please forgive me if any information is missing… feel free to ask.

Thanks & regards
Martin

1) For a 200m2 (2,150 sq ft) house with KfW 55 standard, that should be sufficient. If you want to be sure, have a heating load calculation done. But I don’t really see any risk.

4) Make sure to submit an application to BAFA. I could imagine that the €12,000 (12k euros) might be eligible for funding. Since it is a special case, BAFA will decide on a case-by-case basis whether you receive the 35% subsidy.

Thank you for your reply.
I have now spoken with the municipal utilities.

Regarding point 4) The subsidy is provided to the municipal utilities by the BAFA...
