Hello,

we are currently building a semi-detached house 6m (20 feet) wide. With a traditional room layout, the sofa would be placed along one wall and the TV cabinet on the opposite wall, resulting in a viewing distance of about 5m (16 feet). Please see the image below!

How have you arranged your sofa and TV stand optimally for such distances, or should I plan for a 65-inch monster TV?

Thank you!

It might depend on visual acuity and personal habits. TVs used to be smaller, and it somehow worked back then. But for me, it can’t be big enough.
And when I look at recommendations from various tech magazines, for example, 60 inches at 2.5 meters (8 feet), maybe I’m not alone with my preference.

I actually just looked it up online and I’m glad that my eyesight is still “adjusted” enough that a “small” TV is not a problem for me: at least I don’t have to move my head when tracking something from left to right across the screen :P

Best regards, Yvonne

Hello, so we have a 55-inch screen at about 5 meters (16 feet) distance. The advantage is, I hardly notice any difference between SD and HD... not to mention UHD. So, the TV doesn’t have to be ultra expensive. *g* But of course, that’s a matter of personal taste. For a special movie or TV experience, we added a projector on top. [emoji16]
A 120-inch screen at 5 meters (16 feet) is almost like being in a cinema. [emoji41]

The recommendations for viewing distance with 4K content are quite amusing. This clearly illustrates the practical value of this technology. In my opinion, for televisions, it offers no added benefit. It might be different, of course, when using a projector to cover an entire wall.

@stefanc84 no, but you can’t compare the pixel blur of a CRT with a high-resolution TV

However, a high-resolution TV only adds value if you sit directly in front of it. Otherwise, it’s just money wasted on consumption. [emoji39]

I wouldn’t exactly call 3m (10 feet) directly in front of the screen. However, at 5m (16 feet), I can still see a difference between 4K and Full HD. Just tested this with Netflix.
