Hello everyone,

I’m new here because my husband and I have just started looking into building a house. I would appreciate your advice or help with the following matter:

My husband is self-employed and needs a workshop for his work, where some goods can also be stored. Our idea is to have a house where the ground floor (on a slab foundation) would be used as a workshop, storage, double garage (for two electric cars), utility room, bicycle parking, food storage, etc., and the upper floor would be our living area. We don’t have children (and we’re too old for that), so we’re thinking about 100–120 square meters (1,076–1,292 square feet) per floor.

We would prefer to build with precast lightweight aggregate concrete elements, as this is said to be faster than traditional solid construction.

Is our idea completely unreasonable, or is there perhaps someone here who has built something similar?

Thanks in advance,

Best regards
Gudrun

Later on, I can redesign everything with minimal effort so that it can either be a pure office building or a purely residential building. The layout is also designed so that with little effort, the living area on the ground floor can be divided into two apartments. The office space on the upper floor could also be converted into three apartments.

That sounds very interesting – have you shared this house here anywhere before?

@11ant This eagerness to see every house here is quite unusual.

??? That might be how it feels to someone like that. I find some houses here that the world would have been better off without (including, not least, actual built ones). When someone like Tom1607 talks about an interestingly designed house, I’m happy to get a visual idea of it. Or what you see in phiwoo’s picture: solid, straightforward homes—a real relief compared to the lavish custom mansions presented here as dreams, whose thread creators then probably quietly end up ordering “the one with the little flags” (meaning: a Flair 113 in bright lemon yellow). Your house has turned out quite decent, as has what V3ctra showed yesterday. Normal houses, without show staircases for the Queen of inches. Or what Nordlys (almost finished) built, even though I personally wouldn’t build a garage only for a workbench to tinker in. But also with a normal swing gate, which all of mine have and was even good enough for the Ferrari.
